How to Eat Healthy While on Staycation

Don’t let your diet go on vacation;  find out how to make smart dining choices during your domestic getaway.

You are on vacation to relax, unwind and rejuvenate but that’s no excuse to forget all your healthy eating habits. While you’re out there exploring new places, it’s normal to think that sticking to a healthy diet can be inconvenient.

Here are some tips to stay on top of your eat healthy plan while on staycation:

Fight the Urge to Overeat
Don’t allow yourself to splurge just because you’re on a holiday. Remind yourself that you may be consuming a large amount of calories more than what your body needs if you go on a cheat day.

There’s no need to order an extra serving if you think you can always go back and eat on a regular day. You don’t want to feel all the guilt right after munching down on all those calories!

Plan your Meals
You don’t always have to eat three full meals during a holiday. How about eating healthy fruits in the morning together with a bowl of oatmeal? Don’t forget how smoothies can also make you feel full and energised throughout the day. Sandwiches are also healthy options to keep your diet in check.

Hydrate
When on vacation, it’s easier to just buy beverages that are available. Try to stay away from drinks loaded with sugar such as sodas, artificial fruit juice and sports drinks. You can always look for no-calorie drink options including fruit-infused teas, fruit-infused water, unsweetened tea, coffee, sparkling water or club soda.

Order Fruits and Vegetables
Look for healthier meals whenever you order something from the menu. There are dishes out there that include high-nutrient, high-fiber fruits and vegetables. You can always order a salad to get your daily dose of healthy vegetables or even order a fruit smoothie when you can.

While you’re on a break, don’t deprive yourself of what’s good and delicious. Get to know yourself better and make healthier decisions even when you’re on a staycation.
