With these workout tips, rainy days are no longer an excuse for you to not exercise

As we enter the rainy season, we can expect more bad weather and disruptions to our workout routines. If we cannot get out of the house to get sweating, let’s bring the workout to the home instead! Here are some fun workout tips for you to stay active at home:

Jump Rope

Jump rope is one of the most efficient and flexible workout equipment. It’s highly portable and light-weight, meaning you can bring it nearly anywhere. it is also effective in training strength, agility and fitness.

We suggest wearing sports gear to prevent injuries when you jump rope. Do not strain your feet and knee joints by jumping too high.

If you’re new to jumping rope, start with 40-50 jumps per set and gradually increase to tone your body muscles. Skip this exercise if you’re suffering from medical conditions such as asthma or poor leg joints.

Stationary Bike

A stationary bike can be an excellent exercise equipment if you enjoy cycling. Invest in one that has a built-in computer where you could adjust the duration, resistance and intensity for your workout while keeping track of your heart rate. Make sure you are comfortable with the seat as well.

Start at an easy level by cycling for 3 to 5 minutes. Gradually increase the speed and resistance level. While cycling, remember to always keep a consistent breathing rate and stay hydrated.

Zumba

Hone your dancing skills and exercise! Zumba integrates dance and aerobic movements to help you sweat it out and get in shape. Purchase Zumba workout DVDs or watch online videos for motivation to stay active.

Zumba also includes hip-hop, squats, lunges and salsa movements. Each session usually lasts for an hour where you would be working on muscle toning and body strengthening.

Stair Climbing

Make use of your surroundings for your workout routines. Walk up and down your stairs or you could even do lunges for every step you take. If you have good stamina, add on mini workouts such as jumping jacks at the end of every level.

Be sure to take a break once in a while so that you do not strain your knee joints.

Pilates

Conditioning exercises help to develop strength and enhance your muscle tone. You could do Pilates with a friend or follow Pilates video workouts online such as Blogilates.

Treadmill

Invest in a treadmill. If the weather is too hot or cold, you can always go for a run on the treadmill at home.

This is a perfect way to stay active despite the weather. Aim to exercise early in the morning so that you can be more productive throughout the day. If you exercise just a few hours before bedtime, you could have trouble sleeping as your body will be more awake after the intensive workout.

Bad weather shouldn’t be a reason for you to compromise your health and fitness levels. Combat procrastination and laziness by setting your fitness goals within a specific time frame.
